Travel Packages May Be Your Best Bet

The casinos in Las Vegas have been cutting their hotel prices but the airfare is still expensive. However if you look for a package that includes your airfare and hotel you may be able to find some bargains.

Calculating the House Edge for Place Bets

Friday September 5, 2008
Casinos make their money by collecting a small amount on each bet. This is called the house edge and it is the difference between the amount of money the casino pays you when you win a bet and the true mathematical odds of winning. Each casino bet has a different house edge and players often wonder how it is calculated. Here is how to calculate the house edge for the Craps place bets.

Who Will Win the Superbowl

Thursday September 4, 2008
Although the Giants won the Superbowl last year they are not given much of a chance to repeat this year. In fact the latest odds for a futures bet on the Giants winning the Superbowl are 20 to 1. This is not surprising given the fact that the Giants have never had a winning season following a Superbowl appearance. After winning in 1986 they went 6-9. After winning in 1990 they went 8-8 and after losing in 200 they went 7-9 the following season. History and past performance indicate they may be in for tough season with little chance of repeating.

The early favorites to win the Superbowl are New England and Dallas but I am going out on a limb and picking San Diego to go all the way. Who do you think will win the Superbowl? Post your pick in the forum's topic of the week.

Poker Returns to Mohegan Sun in Connecticut

Sunday August 31, 2008

On August 29th, I attended the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Casino of the Wind at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. The opening of the 64,000 sq ft casino is first phase of the Project Horizon, the third major expansion since the Mohegan Sun opened in 1996. Along with the additional gaming space, the Casino of the Wind includes Jimmy Buffet's Margaretville Restaurant which will open later this month. Project Horizon will also include additional retail space and a new hotel tower which is slated for completion in 2010.

The Casino of the Wind added 28 table games and 650 new slot machines to the present inventory but the biggest attraction was the new state of the art 42 table poker room which brought poker back to the Mohegan Sun after a five year absence. The Mohegan Sun closed its original poker room in 2003 leaving neighboring Foxwoods casino with the only poker room in New England.

Within one hour of the opening, the poker room was almost filled to capacity and by evening there was a waiting list for all of the games. All of the players that I spoke to were happy to see poker back at the Mohegan Sun. I played my first live game of Texas Holdem at the Mohegan Sun poker room in 2000 and when I sat down at the table in the new room it felt like coming home again.

Pro Football Forecast Handicapping Software Is a Winner

Thursday August 28, 2008
The 2008 NFL season starts next week and sports bettors are getting ready. Each year more money is bet on the NFL than any other sport. This includes legal betting in Nevada, illegal betting on the internet and with local bookies and of course all of the pools that are run in many business offices.

Many bettors study the weekly stats and look for anything that can help them handicap the games and pick winners. There are a variety of "services" that you can purchase to help you make your selections each week however some of these can be very expensive and many are not worth the money. A few years ago I purchased the Pro Football Forecast Handicapping Software Engine which is a program that predicts the winners in the NFL games. Over the last five years this program has a win percentage of over 60 percent on the games it selects as the best bets. This is a great program that is easy to use and very affordable. Here is my review.
